Adobe CS5 Revisited

I took this photo on a rainy day in San Francisco of Lombard St. last weekend. I took the liberty to take full advantage of the Photoshop CS5 beta to clean it up and remove the majority of the distracting bits (power lines, signs, a few people, etc.). It took a little while and I had to combine different approaches, but I’m really happy with how it turned out.

  1. El,

That photo looks great! So how are you liking Adobe CS5? I noticed the photo you doctored and it looks great. Was that using any special new tools in the program?

  2. Thanks Doug!
    I’m *loving* CS5. I can’t wait.

I pretty much just used the “content-aware” option on the fill, delete, and healing tools. :D Start with the content-aware fill & delete in the bigger areas, then go back in using the spot & healing brushes to go in and clean up. I did have to use the gold old clone stamp tool in a few of the more congested areas, and when you have a base you can clean it up with the content-aware healing brush. Saved MANY hours.

  3. Content aware? Sounds unnerving, like War Games, lol. What those Abobe people won’t think of next, eh? Speaking of Photoshop I just posted a new blog article, Designer’s Rant: Psychotic Photoshop. When you get a chance check it out. I’m sure you’ll get a chuckle or two.

  4. I’ve seen the content aware tools at work on CS5 videos and I really would love to play around with it. Did you think of getting rid of the bin/trash (sorry I’m English) thing on the left? Would have been a challenge putting the stairs back in there. :)

  5. I did consider that actually. I may revisit the photo at some point to try to do just that (but lacking the time and motivation to do it just yet ;) )
