have you ever tried to switch on mod_rewrite for bbpress in here? there's a dropdown somewhere in the admin section where you can switch the style of forum / topic links from /forum/topic.php?id=75 to simething like /forum/topic/worlds-largest-gummybear or so.
we're trying to set up a bbpress with existing posts in the database and totally outdated core (0.9 or something). somehow we get a lot of 404's when mod_rewrite / pretty urls are turned on.
