Don’t get me wrong – I love my iPhone. I’m not quite a zealot, but I’m a big fan. Ok, maybe I’m a little bit of a zealot. But I admit that there are still some things that I wish the iPhone could do.

There aren’t too many. Some are just annoyances, but there are a few that would take the user experience to the next level.

A simple one to start: Continue to display the current time when receiving a phone call.

The ability to configure battery saving preferred settings (like “turn off GPS, Bluetooth, and Wifi”), then “activate” them just by tapping an app icon. Touch the same app icon to set it back. I’m tired of having to go in several places to turn items on and off when I’m on the go.

Custom ring profiles similar to the Blackberry. I’d like to be able to set rules on how the phone behaves when receiving emails, texts, or calls with various criteria.

If I can have those 3 things, I would be a much happier iPhone owner.

I wish there was an iPhone app that could turn off particular things to save battery life with one touch of the screen. Perhaps you can configure it under the General Settings to specify what you want turned off/on like 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, and/or GPS. Then on your home screen you can touch one icon to turn it all off when you know you won’t use it to extend your battery life. When you want to use it, press the icon again and it all gets enabled with minimal effort. I’d pay a couple bucks for that.

I REALLY like the white iPhone. Does that make me girly?

The 8GB would not have been nearly enough for me. I’m glad I went with the 16GB.

The Remote app ROCKS. Now I just need to remember to leave my computer speakers on all the time…

My old iPod USB cable DOES work with the iPhone 3G.

My old iPod Firewire car charger does NOT work with the iPhone 3G.

I’m REALLY going to need a case for it. So far, this one is my favorite even though I would really prefer a neoprene case that left the back viewable so you can see the GelaSkin. Otherwise, I’m going to have to forgo the GelaSkin =(

Super Monkey Ball is REALLY HARD to play when in a car.

It’s only a matter of time before Steve gets one too.

I’m so happy (and completely exhausted)! I’ve been wanting for this for 1.5+ years now and I finally have it. I wish there was more storage so I wouldn’t need to rely on my ipod as much, but I think it’ll work out just fine. The top rated songs only take up approx. 1/2 the disk space (so far). That leaves 8GB for apps, movies (maybe only for travel), video podcasts, photos, etc.

I was pretty excited and spun up last night and didn’t get more than a couple of hours of sleep. I arrived around 6:45am at one of the 2 local stores (the one that wasn’t in the mall). There were somewhere around 15-20 people in line ahead of me – much better than I was expecting.

About 10-15 minutes later, KC & Chris arrived and were already 4 people behind me. Shortly thereafter, the line just about doubled. I don’t think it got too much longer than that.

Around 7:45 they came around with a nice high-quality printout with “preparation” info on it – the available plans, the phone choices, accessories, notes like “check your voicemail because you will lose any saved messages when you activate your iPhone”, etc. Steve was kind enough to bring us breakfast and caffeinated beverages. >YUM<

Some of the guys up front sold their spots for like $50. I think an older couple (and maybe one or two other individuals) gave up way too early. heh

The doors opened at 8, and quite a few people seemed to be let in at first. There were people from the local newspaper - asking a few questions to people in line nearby and taking photos. One of the AT&T people (the manager?) rolled out a cooler and offered us some bottled water - that was really kind of them. I would have partaken, but I was just finishing up some caffeinated sugar beverage - I mean, mocha coolatta.

The people in line around us were pretty cool. Some of them I even knew - kind of. There was a family in front of me and their little kids were sweet. Around 9:30 it felt like I could aaaaaalmost touch the door...

Then they came out and apologized for the delays. The system was so overwhelmed that the iTunes activation part was crashing. Not long after, they came out again and said that they had 11 remaining – 8 x 16 GB white, and 8 x 8 GB black. A lot of people were disappointed because they were out of the 16 GB black – that’s what I had intended to get. KC bought the last iPhone (on the far right below).

I ended up getting the white 16 GB iPhone – and it’s really grown on me. I’m still getting settled in and learning my way around. I’ll probably post more photos on flickr over the next few days or so.

Now I really need to get a case for it before I drop it. I’m also waiting for GelaSkins to release their 3G iPhone skins. I’ve wanted this one since I first saw it.

I was lucky enough to not have to wait in line for too long (only 3 hours) to get my 16 GB iPhone this morning. Unfortunately, by the time I got through the door they were out of the 16 GB black. So I ended up grabbing one of the last white ones – which I’m actually starting to really like. It seems to do really well when it comes to fingerprints and smudges on the back. You can only notice them on the silver apple logo. The plastic case actually feels really nice in my small hand. Congrats to KC for getting the LAST ONE at the store. He got a few comments and dirty looks on his way out of the store.

The iTunes store is (of course) having issues due to the demand, so we were allowed to bring our phones home and finish activation from home. I’ve been trying to activate mine for almost 3 hours now, and I’m not even sure that it’s fully activated. It does seem to have partially activated… weird. At least now I can make/receive calls with it.

So far I’m really happy with the phone. My only complaint (if you can call it that):

After bringing it home and activating, I tried to connect the iPhone headphones – and at first they didn’t seem to fit! Apparently they do actually fit – but they’re REALLY snug. You have to give it a good push to get that extra “click” – and that doesn’t give me the warm-n-fuzzies.

Once you get it fully connected, it doesn’t fit smoothly because it’s no longer recessed, and the back of the phone is curved. It’s the same for other headphones so it’s no just the Apple-supplied ones that do this. Not too big of a deal, but I would have expected better from Apple. Funny thing is that the new headphones fit very nicely/easily on the old iPhone.
